About the Kibbutz

Kibbutz Sdot-Yam is a "co-operative" kibbutz, located by the sea. The choice of location was not by chance. In 1940, Ben Gurion strongly supported the kibbutz's establishment near the Mediterranean shore as means of strengthening the western border.
In the early years, many members did agricultural work in the nearby fields or went to sea as fishermen. With time, the kibbutz searched for alternative sources of income. As a result, the number of work branches expanded to include industry and tourism.
Today, Sdot-Yam's major sources of income are Caesarstone (world renowned for its quartz countertops), Kef Yam (famous for its unique settings for organizing indoor and outdoor events), and agriculture.
